Wellbeing

step to wellness

What about our lives needs to change in order to secure wellbeing? It’s important to feel physically healthy, but what else do we need? Maslow’s hierarchy of needs labels this second step as “safety,” which makes sense, but I feel safety is the result of first establishing wellbeing. Wellbeing is synonymous with happiness, which is foundational for health.

  • Learning to self-witness

  • Noticing the difference between internal and external experiences

  • Setting and maintaining boundaries of self

  • Establishing a personal language to describe one’s felt, perceived sensory experiences

  • Learning skills of self-regulation

  • Establishing a mindfulness practice that is distinct, specific and appropriate for the individual
